Undersea 1.0.0

Protozoa's run

Hello there, boys and girls. Today, uncle Eukaryo's going to show you the drill. Put on your protozoa cap and get ready for a deep-water adventure about reaching warmer pastures and evolving stylish outer layers.

Undersea

Contrary to the example of many avoid-em-up arcade games out there, Undersea gives off a sense of mission and purpose from the very beginning. Here you're not just aimlessly going through an endless tunnel in the hopes of scoring better than the last time. Instead, motivation comes from discovering new environments, completing challenges and collecting blue-cells currency in the process.

The game is split into six stages, each being increasingly harder to navigate. Once you pass twenty or so barriers of an environment, you get to the next one, and so on.

The cells that you collect are stored over from one try to the next and can be spent on a couple of things, the most useful being checkpoints. Once you pass into a new environment for the first time, you will unlock the possibility of jumping straight into it in future tries. The other things are new skins, which you can pick up on the way up.

Undersea

The control scheme is simple, but it may prove cumbersome at times. It sometimes happens that your finger gets in the way of seeing the exit, or that it gets so sweaty that you lose the ability for fine control, which is often essential. But these are the woes of a tablet player, and we must learn to live with them. Speaking of tablets, Undersea is best played on a larger display. The more room you have to swipe, the better you can wiggle around obstacles. Be that as it may, I would rather play Undersea using a large control stick.

Final Thoughts

Undersea is a pleasant surprise. As an arcade game, it hits all the points. It is challenging, but not impossible, it rewards skill, and has enough content to keep you hooked. Also, you can buy the dev a coffee, to ditch the adds and pay Mamau Games for making a little game of the best kind. Now back to the soup with you!
